Your U.S. or Canadian auto policy does not constitute valid Mexican insurance. Some U.S. policies offer limited reimbursement near the border, but they don't send an adjuster to the scene, aren't registered with Mexican authorities, and don't satisfy the legal requirement to carry liability insurance on Mexico's federal highways. Only a Mexican-issued policy does all three.
What that means in practice: if you have an accident in Mexico without a Mexican policy, you may be dealing with authorities on your own, in another language, with your trip on hold.
Crossing into the U.S. with Mexican plates? Insurance isn't checked at the port of entry — but it is mandatory to drive, in every state. Driving without it can mean costly fines and, more importantly, paying out of pocket if you're found liable in an accident.
Heads-up: many Mexican full-coverage policies include limited U.S. tourist coverage, but they typically exclude drivers who live, study or work in the U.S. and stays over 30 consecutive days — check your policy before you cross.

SeguritoSegurito.com is a licensed Mexican insurance agency on the Texas–Coahuila border (Piedras Negras / Eagle Pass crossing) — we live on this border, so we insure the roads we actually drive. Since 2024 it's the tourist-auto portal of KIXIR, Agencia de Seguros, with over 12 years of experience and recognitions like AXA's Agente Alfa Autos award.
Behind both brands is Vicente Daniel Campos De Luna, a certified insurance agent, backed by a committed team of 3 and by AXA México, CHUBB Crossborder and Qualitas USA — three of the leading insurers in tourist auto coverage.

I drove from North Carolina to Guadalajara. Coming into Guadalajara we had trouble with two tires — we called AXA and they solved the problem for us.
I highly recommend Segurito's service — it's fast and the prices are good.
Great for getting you out of a bind. I used it a couple of times with a car whose insurance didn't cover the U.S., and it was the best option: I only paid for exactly the 2–3 days I needed.

No. Some U.S. policies reimburse limited damages near the border, but that's not a Mexican policy: no on-site adjuster, no registration with Mexican authorities, and it doesn't meet the legal liability requirement on federal highways. You need a Mexican-issued policy.
Liability coverage from a Mexican insurer is required on federal highways — and several states and cities require it locally too. Driving without it can mean detention until responsibilities are settled, plus out-of-pocket damages.
Most clients finish in minutes. The policy arrives by email — you can buy today and start coverage on your travel date.
Yes: 1 to 365 days. Weekend trips, monthly stays, or annual plans for frequent crossers — and the more days you buy, the lower the daily rate.
From $17 USD per day. The exact price depends on your vehicle, the coverage you pick and your trip's length — and you only buy the days you need. The $17 example: liability-only for a 2017 Dodge Journey, all-Mexico coverage, 45-year-old male driver (as of May 2026).
For an exact price, the best move is quoting your own case.
Yes. Cars, SUVs, pickups, motorcycles, motorhomes and trailers each have their own plan.
Damage to your own vehicle, total theft, third-party liability, occupant medical payments, legal defense and roadside assistance. Exact limits are shown before you pay.
Depends on the insurer and plan. With CHUBB Crossborder you pick from 3 territories:
With AXA, coverage always includes all of Mexico.
If anyone is injured or you need the authorities, call 911 first, then your insurer. They'll send an adjuster to the scene — or may assist you remotely if no one else is involved. Their call center guides you step by step, and they handle the process with authorities in Spanish.

Anyone with a valid driver's license — including a Mexican license — driving with the owner's permission is covered. Unlike U.S. policies, there's no approved-driver list.
Note: penalties may apply if a Mexican resident drives a U.S.-plated vehicle; check the Paisano program rules if that's your case.
Yes. Cancellation and refund terms depend on each insurer and on whether the policy already started: before the start date you can usually cancel; once active, refunds are typically limited.
Our recommendation: since you buy exact days, purchase when your trip is solid — ideally 1–2 days before crossing. You pay just for the days you'll use and skip cancellation paperwork.
No — Banjercito doesn't ask for insurance: the TIP and your auto policy are completely independent procedures. That said, you'll want both for your trip — the permit lets your vehicle travel beyond the border zone, and the Mexican policy backs you on the road.
The permit is processed with Banjercito; the insurance you solve right here online, in minutes.
Official CBP-based estimates are on our crossing-times page: live border wait times — by lane, with an hourly forecast for every port of entry.
His name is Pato Cruze, and he's a Northern Shoveler — a duck that migrates every year between Mexico, the United States and Canada, just like the people who cross the border with their car. And he warms up a process that's usually all business. His motto: “pa' tu cruce, Segurito” — for your crossing, safe and sound.
It varies by entry state, vehicle and coverage, but you can get covered from $10.35 USD per day. Minimum daily rates by state (basic package):
| State of entry | Insurer | Price per day |
|---|---|---|
| Arizona | Qualitas | From $10.35 |
| New Mexico | Qualitas | From $10.35 |
| Texas | Qualitas | From $10.35 |
| California | CHUBB | From $12.50 |
Note: base rates as of May 2026; they can vary with your vehicle.
No — insurance isn't a requirement to enter the United States; but it is mandatory to drive, in every state. Driving without it can mean costly fines and, more importantly: if you're found liable in an accident, you pay out of pocket.
Your Segurito backs you with liability, medical expenses, legal defense and towing, up to the contracted limits.
Many Mexican full-coverage policies already include a U.S. tourist auto policy at no extra cost — but they almost always exclude drivers who live, study or work in the U.S. and stays over 30 consecutive days. Check your policy before crossing.
Fall into one of those exceptions? We sell Segurito for USA for exactly those cases.

It's a liability policy for Mexican-plated cars — the legal requirement to drive in the United States. It covers:
Important: being liability coverage, it does not cover damage to your own car.
The coverage territory can vary by package: border states (California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas), all of the U.S., or all of the U.S. and Canada.
Yes — with Qualitas' Extended Stay (the “Study and/or Work” option), the only one you can purchase while already in the U.S. It's 100% online, with terms from 30 days to 1 year.
As soon as you pay online, your policy is issued instantly: download it from the insurer's portal or get it by email, ready to show authorities from your phone — no printing needed.
If your Mexican-plated car will spend 30 or more consecutive days in the U.S., you most likely need Extended Stay coverage — most tourist policies don't cover long stays. It's 100% online, with terms from 30 days to 1 year.
Heads-up: already in the U.S.? Only Qualitas' Extended Stay applies (the “Study and/or Work” option). Still in Mexico? You can pick Qualitas or CHUBB.
Yes — Qualitas' and CHUBB's Extended Stay coverages are built exactly for that: they insure your Mexican-plated car while you study, work or reside in the U.S. You buy it 100% online, with terms from 30 days to 1 year.
Heads-up: already in the United States? Only Qualitas' Extended Stay applies (the “Study and/or Work” option). Still in Mexico? You can pick Qualitas or CHUBB.
Note: if you're a U.S. resident, also check whether your state restricts driving a Mexican-plated vehicle — what we explain here covers only the insurance side.
Depends on the coverage: with Qualitas' or CHUBB's Extended Stay, yes — your Mexican-plated car is protected even with a U.S. resident or citizen behind the wheel.
⚠️ With regular tourist policies, generally no: most exclude coverage when the driver lives in the United States (a few don't have that exclusion — check the wording before lending the car).
About the law: rules may restrict a resident from routinely driving a Mexican-plated car — check your state. Our expertise is strictly the insurance coverage we sell.
Remember: already in the U.S.? Only Qualitas' Extended Stay (“Study and/or Work”). From Mexico? Qualitas or CHUBB.
Right here, 100% online: pick the exact days you need — 1, 3, 5, whatever — pay the insurer directly and your policy lands in your inbox in minutes. No account needed, any hour of the day — ideal if you cross tomorrow… or you're already in line at the border. From $10.35 USD per day.
Depends on the insurer: Qualitas coverage is nationwide (all of the United States); with CHUBB you choose the territory when quoting — border states only (California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas), all of the U.S., or even U.S. + Canada. The rate adjusts to your trip's reach: pay less if you stay near the border, extend it at quoting time if your route goes deeper (or up to Canada).
Yes — as long as it has Mexican plates and will be driven in the United States, you can buy your Segurito USA for a rented or borrowed car. Note: it's liability coverage (third-party damage) — it doesn't cover damage to the rented vehicle itself. And if what you rent is an American car over there, that one doesn't apply: its insurance comes from the rental company.
